ClearLight™ uses high-intensity blue-violet
light to activate bacteria-fighting porphyrins which start a chemical reaction
producing peroxide in the skin and destroying acne causing P. acnes bacteria.
What happens during treatment?
During the 25 minute treatment there is a slight warm sensation.
How many ClearLight™ treatments are needed?
A total of eight treatments, spaced at least 48 hours apart.
It is important have all treatments to see maximum results.
How effective is ClearLight™?
ClearLight™ effectively clears 70% of mild to moderate inflammatory acne in eight weeks. Inflammatory acne
includes red bumps and pus bumps. An occasional patient will have a flare up sometime between the 2nd and 5th
treatment, which should resolve with continued treatment.
Are your patients pleased with the results?
Yes, in our practice in Texas, ClearLight™ is very popular.
Will skin be blemish-free at the end of the ClearLight™ treatments?
No, although most patients are much improved. Blackheads and whiteheads are not cleared with ClearLight™, so
Dr. Elaine's® Perfect Effects® Acne Skin Care
and prescription surface acne treatments are continued.
Some patients experience residual redness where an inflamed blemish was located. The redness will go away over
time.
Does everyone get better with ClearLight™?
Approximately 15-20% of patients won't improve due to other types of bacteria.
Are the results permanent?
Monthly maintainance ClearLight™ treatments usually help control acne breakouts for four to six months; after
that another treatment series may be necessary.
Is ClearLight™ safe? Are there any side effects?
ClearLight™ is one of the safest acne treatments available. The blue-violet light penetrates just deep enough to
reach the acne, and doesn't harm the surrounding skin. There are no known side effects.
Who can be treated with ClearLight™?
Most people can benefit from treatment. ClearLight™ is very effective on mild to moderate
inflammatory acne. Pregnant women and people with photosensitivities should consult with Dr. Elaine before
treatment.
Do patients need to prepare their skin before ClearLight™ treatment?
Yes. You should not use a mask, exfoliant, or Retin A® / Differin® / Tazorac® or Tetracycline antibiotics the night before treatment. You may resume your acne treatment the evening of treatment.
Are ClearLight™ treatments FDA approved?
Yes. ClearLight™ was the first device to receive FDA clearance for the safe and effective treatment of moderate
inflammatory acne.
How do home blue light devices compare with ClearLight™?
Home blue light devices are much less powerful than ClearLight™. Treatment times are longer and results are significantly less.
